Cancellation & Refund Policy
-
Language First Ireland understands that plans can change. This Cancellation & Refund Policy explains when a course may be cancelled and when a refund may be available.
This policy applies to courses booked and paid for directly through the Language First Ireland website.
Nothing in this policy affects any statutory consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded or restricted.
-
When a course is purchased online, consumers generally have a statutory 14-day cancellation period under Irish consumer law.
You may cancel your course within 14 days of entering into the contract without giving a reason, provided the statutory conditions for cancellation apply.
To exercise this right, you must inform Language First Ireland clearly and in writing within the 14-day period, using the contact details provided on our website.
If you have specifically requested that the course begin during the 14-day cancellation period, and lessons or other services have already been provided before you cancel, you may be required to pay a proportionate amount for the service provided up to the time of cancellation.
Where the service has been fully provided during the cancellation period following your express request and acknowledgement, the statutory right to cancel may no longer apply.
Where a refund is due, it will normally be made using the original payment method and within the timeframe required by law.
-
If you wish to cancel a course before the first scheduled lesson, please contact us as soon as possible in writing.
Where a cancellation is made within the applicable statutory cancellation period, the statutory cancellation rights described above will apply.
Outside the statutory cancellation period, refunds are subject to the cancellation terms applicable to the course at the time of booking.
Because our courses are organised in advance and places in small groups are limited, cancelling after the course has been confirmed may affect our ability to offer the place to another student.
For this reason, course fees are generally non-refundable after the applicable cancellation period has expired, unless otherwise stated for a particular course or required by law.
-
Once a course has started, individual missed lessons are not refundable and cannot normally be transferred to another course or student.
This applies whether a student is unable to attend because of illness, holidays, personal commitments, technical difficulties or any other reason.
Where a student decides to discontinue a course after it has started, any refund will be considered in accordance with the applicable statutory consumer rights and the specific terms of the course purchased.
Nothing in this section limits any statutory right to a refund, price reduction or cancellation where the service has not been provided as agreed or does not comply with applicable consumer law.
-
Language First Ireland reserves the right to make reasonable changes to course arrangements where necessary, including changes to tutors, lesson times or group organisation.
If Language First Ireland has to cancel a course before it begins and cannot offer a suitable alternative, students will be offered either:
a transfer to another suitable course or course date; or
a full refund of the amount paid for the cancelled course.
If a course has to be discontinued after it has started and Language First Ireland is unable to provide the remaining lessons, an appropriate refund or alternative arrangement will be offered for the part of the course that has not been provided.
Where a change is necessary, we will communicate with affected students or parents/guardians as soon as reasonably possible.
-
To request a cancellation or refund, please contact Language First Ireland in writing through our Contact page as soon as possible.
Please include:
the student's full name;
the course booked;
the date of booking;
the reason for cancellation, where relevant; and
the email address used for the booking.
We will acknowledge your request and assess it in accordance with this policy, the Terms & Conditions and applicable Irish consumer law.
Where a refund is due, it will normally be made to the original payment method.
If you have any questions about cancellation or refunds before booking a course, please contact us and we will be happy to clarify the applicable terms.
